Could this finally be his break–through? In 2012 Chitiyo was voted the Castle Lager Footballer of the Year runner-up after an outstanding season with his former club Monomotapa.

His performance did not go unnoticed with South African clubs declaring interest in them.

Chitiyo had a trial stint at Ajax after having first tried his luck at Orlando Pirates in February last year.

Although he did not make it at Pirates, Chitiyo won the admiration of the management and technical staff at Ajax Cape Town.

Then Ajax Cape Town chief executive George Comitis was at the time quoted in the media saying Chitiyo had impressed during his trials at the Urban Warriors and were looking to sign him on.

However, nothing came out of it. Despite his spark at club level, he was overlooked by Warriors coach Ian Gorowa for national duty, while he was a favourite of his predecessor Klaus Dieter Pagels.

Chitiyo has this time again attracted interest from Ajax. His manager Edzai Kasinauyo confirmed the player was definitely set to leave Dynamos.

Kasinauyo said apart from Chitiyo, there were other players who could join them in South Africa.

“We are in the middle of negotiations with some clubs here who have shown interest in some players. There are a couple of players who have attracted attention and Chitiyo is definitely one of them. I can’t say much because I will jeopardise negotiations. By next week, we should be in a position to tell who is going where,” Kasinauyo said from South Africa.

Striker Rodreck Mutuma who is also under his [Kasinauyo’s] management is also reported to be eyeing a move back to South Africa after his intended move to join Dynamos collapsed due to complications in his transfer papers which were not in order.

Mutuma, who had been released by South African club Bloemfontein Celtic, has been training with Dynamos, hoping to join them in the July transfer window.

However, Kasinauyo said the lanky striker could also be returning to South Africa.

Dynamos are bidding to defend their league championship for the fourth successive year, and should they lose some of their key players after already losing goalkeeper George Chigova to Supersport, it would be a major blow to their title defence.

Dynamos share top spot with leaders Hwange and How Mine with 22 points, each from 12 matches after they defeated Highlanders 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday with Washington Pakamisa scoring the only goal of the match — his first league goal this season.

Dynamos now believe they can successfully defend their league title.
