Three people died Tuesday night when a bus ferrying mourners to a funeral collided with a timber-laden haulage truck in Dema along the Chitungiwza- Wedza Road.

Witnesses said the accident occurred at around 8pm when the bus, which was heading towards Wedza, side-swiped with a lorry, resulting in the deaths and several injuries.

The injured were taken to Chitungwiza Hospital.

Although police were not immediately available for comment, information received by NewsDay through its Whatsapp platform indicate that the bus had excess standing passengers while the timber in the truck was not safely secured and might have overlapped to the other lane, resulting in the accident.

  1. may the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace. for the injured i command in the name of Jesus a fast tracked recovery. to the commuter omni bus operators , please do respect the crucial consignment that yu will be carrying in this case the commuters. to the responsible minister(minister mpofu) please dont make vague statement in press. we want tangible actions on our roads as early as before end of this year.we cannot wait for the year to end so that we can celebrate meaningful road policies and upgradements whilst we are perishing.

  2. If the police are to be really effective they need to be visible on the roads at night as well patrolling and setting up roadblocks. Investigations will reveal that that bus was overloaded and did not have the required documents and so had to travel under the cover of darkness when police have knocked off. Same thing with the truck as well. The highways are not safe to travel on, more so at night.

  3. I know that Dema rood,very narrow,no signs no markings,pot holes,that’s a true reflection of Mugabe & Zanu Pf’s failier,that limping Donkey haina hanya

  4. buses should be banned because they cause accidents like you always say when kombis have accidents,in fact lorries shuld be banned too, ferrying timber shld be banned,or any mode of transport shld be banned and any travelling frm one point to the other shld be banned isn’t?
