MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday asked his detractors to stay off his social life and stop snooping around his love life and focus on turning around the economy which was on a free-fall.

Tsvangirai, who was addressing mourners at the funeral of the late party chairman for Mashonaland West Japhet Karemba in Chitomborwizi, Zvimba, also said that he would not sell-out the struggle because he was staying in what critics say was a “Zanu PF house”.

“The problem is not Tsvangirai. Can you say Tsvangirai is the problem and (President Robert) Mugabe is not? How can you make an effort to say where are his girls, where are his women to smear him. Smearing Tsvangirai will not bring food on the table,” Tsvangirai said.

“Why forming a roundtable, Zanu PF this side, MDC the other side [his detractors], that won’t bring Sadza to the table. Why target Tsvangirai?”

The former Prime Minister said the reason why he was being targeted was because he was the “man with the ball”.

Tsvangirai, who married to Elizabeth Macheka following the death of his wife Susan Tsvangirai in 2009, was linked to several women including South African-based Nosipho Shilubane, Harare businesswoman Lorcadia Karimatsenga Tembo [to whom he reportedly paid $200 0000] in damages as well as Bulawayo-based Loreta Nyathi with whom he sired son Ethan (four), among others.

“If I wanted to sell out I would go to Mugabe and say give me this and that. I said I will never do that, others say he is in a Zanu PF house. (But) I won’t sell out because of a house, l would rather go and stay in Buhera but the struggle will be intensified until final victory,” Tsvangirai said.

Tsvangirai is at the centre of a storm involving his Highlands mansion that he started staying in during his stint as Prime Minister.

He said he would not have sleepless nights over the so-called “rebels” fronted by “axed” secretary-general Tendai Biti and former deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma.

Tsvangirai said those fighting for his ouster should not waste their time as he would not relinquish his post until after being voted out at a party congress sometime in October.

On possibilities of engaging Zanu PF on a national dialogue to end the current economic crisis, the MDC-T leader said: “If they want, we can talk, but we say we learnt a lesson.”

Tsvangirai, who was recently hospitalised over an undisclosed ailment, accused his political nemesis of wishing him dead. “They wanted to make sure that I die. Why be that cruel?” he queried, adding that God had a purpose for everyone.
