THE Sisters Open Mic has given birth to a new talent, Rudorwashe Chasi. Chasi started singing in church at age 13 as a lead singer before learning how to play the guitar in 2010. Entertainment Reporter

Born as a twin, Chasi will tomorrow perform her new album African Sun at the Book Cafe with her live band.

Produced by veteran producer Clive Mono Mkundu and JT, the album exhibits the musician’s prowess in songwriting.

Her musical style is largely influenced by Zimbabwean greats such as Thomas Mapfumo and Oliver Mtukudzi.

Other influences to her sound are Shirley Caesar, Juanita Bynum and lots of American Black Gospel Music which she grew up listening to.

“One of her favorite guitarists is Asa from Nigeria and the style and playing of Tracy Chapman too, and she is also a fan of South African singer Lira,” said Bb Music promoter Bernie Bismark.

Bismark added that besides being a talented vocalist, Chasi also has a law degree and was currently employed as a law officer.

She said Chasi started her public performance at Sisters Open Mic at the Book Café in mid-2012 as well as participating at the Zimbabwe German Society’s acoustic night.

“Her most recent performance was an opening act for the Oliver Mtukudzi Trio at Mistys in Newlands and she has done numerous weddings and corporate functions too,” Bismark said.
