INDUSTRIAL Psychology Consultants (Pvt) Ltd(IPC) has awarded Seed Co the best employee award for the year ended 2013.

INDUSTRIAL Psychology Consultants (Pvt) Ltd(IPC)  has awarded Seed Co the best employee award for the year ended 2013.

Seed Co was selected through a survey which was conducted by the IPC to establish employee engagement in Zimbabwe for the public and private sectors.

The idea was to demonstrate how employee engagement affects organisational productivity. Also of note was that many problems bedevilling corporates today are mainly internal and employee related, hence the need for management to exercise vigilance in managing employee relations.

In a statement, Seed Co said it began operating in 1940 and had put in place several systems to ensure employees were motivated and productive at the same time.

Seed Co said the organisation had put in place several communication methods that allow free flow of information among colleagues and with managers. Communication channels such as meetings, management briefs and team building exercises enabled a harmonious working environment with total transparency. Effective communication methods were imperative for the sustenance of an organisation because they build trust among employees.

“For Seed Co getting the IPC Best Employer of the Year 2013 award was a true testament to what the organisation believes in, that human resource is the most valuable resource in an organisation.  Seed Co’s philosophy is 100% employee engagement for we can only win together,” Seed Co said.

Meanwhile, Securico was among the Zimbabwe’s top 10 best employers for the year ended 2013.

Securico won the same award in 2010 and 2011.

Securico said this astounding achievement comes at a time when the company has been recognised by more than 15 local and international institutions in 2013 and 2014 alone for business excellence.

“Interestingly, Securico’s story is one of ordinary people building an extraordinary business. Starting from humble beginnings 15 years ago with just five employees, Securico has grown to employ more than 4 000 employees with a representation in all Zimbabwe’s major cities and towns.

“The key driver to its growth is the knowledge that it is the people that are the building blocks to a sustainable and successful organisation,” Securico said in a statement.

Securico said the company has developed one of the best welfare scheme package for its employees and this has resulted in a happy and motivated workforce that has propelled the organisation to the status that it has achieved so far.

“The welfare scheme package includes, among others, bursary, agricultural inputs, housing, HIV/Aids, savings and medical insurance.

“Securico has also taken upon its shoulder to develop good community citizens who also drive issues of the environment and safety in their own communities,” Securico said.

Securico added that according to the IPC survey, IPC looked at employee engagement drivers and how these affect work experience.

Employee engagement is defined as the heightened emotional connection that an employee feels for his or her organisation that influences him or her to exert greater discretionary effort to his or her work. Some of the key drivers of employee engagement include levels of confidence in leadership, strategic direction, communication, culture of reward and performance, remuneration, commitment and loyalty, job design and satisfaction and relationship with work colleagues.

“In all these areas, Securico scored highly indicating the high level of commitment to its people. Indeed, investing in people and creation of a positive work culture, results in the establishment of businesses with excellence in their DNA,” Securico said.
