TWO Chitungwiza residents appeared in court last week charged with illegal possession of nearly 60kg of dagga with a street value of $5 910.
However, both suspects Edson Kanyemba (42) and Mary William (45) denied the charge when they appeared before magistrate Lazarus Murendo.
The State alleges that on April 29 this year, a police team led by Constable Lawson Chogugudza raided the pair’s home in Manyame Park following a tip-off and recovered four bags of 59,1kg of dagga hidden in a fowl run.
William allegedly implicated Kanyemba as the owner of the banned drug, leading to their arrest.
The two were granted $100 bail each and ordered to report twice a week at St Mary’s Police Station, pending trial which begins on May 19.
Tendai Mukariri prosecuted, while Nathaniel Chigoro represented the accused.
