The three-day annual event will take place at the end of next month. The Bushfire Festival is similar to our own Harare International Festival of Arts (Hifa).

Mokoomba manager Marcus Gora said it was an honour for the group to perform at the festival.

“The band is excited to be performing for the first time at the festival which has an international line-up that includes great Southern African acts like Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Bongo Maffin and Uhuru, to name a few,” said Gora.

The festival was founded in 2007 and it takes place in Malkerns (House of Fire). In the build-up to the festival, Mokoomba will play in Mozambique and South Africa.

“Apart from performing at the MTN Bushfire Festival, Mokoomba will also perform at the AZGO Festival in Maputo and a concert in Johannesburg as part of the FestFire route made possible by African synergy,” said Gora.

Bushfire is a celebration of live music, poetry, film, circus, theatre, dance and visual arts, and artistes from over 10 countries will perform at the festival.

Other artistes that will perform there include the Sigauque Project of Mozambique, Akale Wube (France), Red Five Point Star (Slovenia) and Imperial Tiger Orchestra (Switzerland).

Mokoomba hails from Victoria Falls and is one of the most-sought after groups in the world having performed extensively around the globe. It is the most successful group in Zimbabwe.

Among their accolades include Songline’s Best Newcomer Award (2013) in the United Kingdom and NAMA award for the Arts Personality of the Year (2013).

Rising Tide, which was released in 2012, is arguably their best album.
