ENVIRONMENT, Water and Climate minister Saviour Kasukuwere has reportedly summoned security chiefs and owners of Mjingwe Ranch in Mwenezi to resolve a wrangle over the ownership of the wildlife sanctuary.

This followed the disturbances that rocked the sanctuary when a group led by the security chiefs Police Assistant Commissioner Elliot Muswita
and Brigadier-General Josphat

Kudumba threatened to take over the property in defiance of a directive by the Zanu PF special politburo meeting chaired by President Robert Mugabe recently ordering them to vacate the conservancy.

Although Kasukuwere was not immediately available for comment, impeccable government sources said the meeting would be held in Harare on Friday.

“The Mjingwe conservancy community committee and the 25-year lease holders have been summoned to Honourable Kasukuwere’s office so that the government policy made at the politburo meeting can be spelt out,” the source privy to the matter said.

A top government official also said: “Nothing has changed (on the Zanu PF order) and the meeting with Kasukuwere will quickly end the current conflict.”
Kasukuwere’s meeting would be preceded by a community meeting with some war veterans in Mwenezi today.

The security chiefs embroiled in the fight to control the sanctuary defied the Zanu PF politburo directive to stay off the wildlife conservancy, threatening to evict white owner Darryl Collett, who is in a partnership with local traditional chiefs and South African investor Alastair Forsyth.

Collett is also expected to attend the meeting after reportedly fleeing to Bulawayo for his safety.

The group at the centre of the fight also includes Army Captain Solomon Ndlovu of Mbalabala Infantry School, headman Peterson Mhizha Mudumo, Raphael Shoko and Finger Tapera.

Informed sources told NewsDay that following the disturbances over the weekend, some 1 000 villagers from the local community gathered to protest.

The security chiefs want Collett and his partners out so that they take over the ranch.

  1. Security chiefs are Chiwenga, Sibanda, Shiri, Chihuri and Zimondi. Is Kasukuwere summoning these? This assistant commissioner and the brigadier are not security chiefs.

  2. Zanu pf politibro meeting of the controversial land invasion chaired by Mugabe. What a joke. They are ruling the country as if they are running a tuckshop owned by zanu pf. They are disturbing the owners of the ranch. Zanu pf is failing to conclude the problem they started.
Important issues like this must be brought before the cabinet not Zanu pf politibro meeting.

    • The government does nothing, you complain kuti honai Zanu yenyu; The government holds a special politiburo meeting and orders the army chiefs off the land, again you complain kuti honai Zanu yenyu! Last i checked the entire cabinet and government policy makers are all Zanu-PF, i do not think ministers in different ministries handling their own portfolios should decide on areas relating to Kasukuwere’s specific ministry, it required a special meeting to address this.

    • @Taw, iwe kana uri mwana waCde, baba vako havana kukuwanira nguva. Your ideological outlook is reactionary. Very sad. Do you know any civilised way of disposesing a human being of land? How did they take it from us? How many thousands died? Criticising land reform has become a cliche, a reactionary sing song parroted by those who naively imagine the revolution was kindergarten play. Manje hapana hapana.

      • Don, so when will those who benefited from the land reform programme start to farm so that we do not have to be fed by the west? Don’t you feel humiliated to have to import maize from Zambia that is being grown by the same white farmers who were driven from land here?

Talking about thousands dying when the whites dispossessed the natives of their land, more than 20 000 black civilians died during Gukurahundi at the hands of their own black president.

You say Taw’s ideological outlook is reactionary, how would you describe Mugabe’s ideological outlook given the fact that he has effectively surrendered our national resources to the Chinese and they have become our new colonisers?

  4. This minister is a crook n useless Zinwa workers are entering the 6th month without salaries but iye akangoti ziiiiiiiii wamwe wanhu hawana kana tsitsi chokwadi

  6. we know most of the who grabing lands are not the true hero although was supposed to be done in orderly mnner but those who benefit were looters only genuine who have drive to build the economy, i can say yes farms are taken its now yours lets do what we were supposed to do inorder to develop the country and feed our elders who are old eough in our rural area but we cant do it ,my idea is lets this dust settle then cliche ourself with minds to attract investors and reproduce inorder to stimulate employment opportunity and not discouraging investor by providing hostile place for them investor is not only foregn but you can be an investor again

  7. The chiefs and ordinary people seem to understand the new economic thrust and blue-priint (ZIM-ASSET) far better than the commanders referred to here. The political decisions have to be supportive of the economic measures in place.PERIOD.!!!

  8. They is nothing wrong with taws english based on the fact that he is not british .stupidity are people like gulaz and wezhira .as for wezhira its not a secret that you are from a pathetic background a looter and a vandaliser

  9. anaKasukuwere basa kutaura zvisina kana basa wen it comes to real issues you are nowhere to be found. tell us honourable minister sir about the cyanide issue coz if my memory serves me ryt u sed u were declaring war with them poachers or my blerrie ears are deceiving me once again?? musashame kana musingazogone kuzvimiririra

  10. Bra Wezhira mind yr own comments. Who died when the land was first grabed by the whites re-visit your history sylabus. Judging all the comments of this story, pple are jus concerned about the way other barbaric pple want to run this country. Even if u ask a five yr old child can tell u that things are tough in this country. Indeed the ruling party was correct to empower its people through land reform, but the question now is, ‘was it ideal’? Obvious no because of the corrupt indivials behind the revolutional party. But the worst part of it we have shock absobers is this saga like Wezhira who silence the trueth when exposed. In Zim we can sing of land reform, indeginisation, 100% empowerment, bhora mugedhi, economic blue print the list is endless. But as we continue to hubour thieves this country will go back to Zero. Its very sad that our economy is 99% decided by politics. Anyone studying economics has to be a half politician and at the end of the day we have lawyers become finance ministers. May God have mercy on Zimbabwe.

  11. How can a Brigadier General of Josphat Kudumba’s learning reduce oneself to join the bandwagon of foolish and senseless Mugabe butt lickers? or is this what we taught you in Pakistan and staff college? One would think you would be one of a few to lead some of our few professional forces in the not too distant junta?
