GOLFER Brendon de Jonge will have to wait a little longer to get his first PGA Tour win after a below average performance at the Byron Nelson Championship which concluded on Sunday in Texas, United States.

While he has won on the Web.com Tour and was named the player of the year in 2008, he is on the short list when talking about the best players who have not won on the PGA Tour.

The Byron Nelson Championship presented him with the opportunity to right that glaring omission on his otherwise good record through 195 starts, but the burly golfer finished tied on 29th on the standings on three under overall — nine shots off the winner Brendon Todd of the US.

The 33-year old began the tournament slowly on the leaderboard after shooting 70 on Day One on Thursday, a round in which he posted five bogeys to two birdies.

However, he improved significantly on the next two days and was on two under at the close of day on Saturday after posting an impressive 67.

It was his best day on the tournament, reeling in four birdies and just one bogey, as he made a one stroke improvement from the previous day.

He, however, failed to carry that form into the final round where four birdies and two bogeys on the third and fourteenth hole characterised his day for a 69 to finish three under par for the tournament.

He finished tied with the US quartet of Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, Robert Garrigus and Brice Garnett, Martin Kaymer of Germany, Australian Aaron Baddeley and Charlie Wi of South Korea.

Despite finishing outside the Top 20, de Jonge got a cool $43 944 while Todd got a whopping $1 242 000 for winning the tournament.

Meanwhile, Ryan Cairns and Tongo Charamba were the only two Zimbabweans of the seven who made the cut at the Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open tournament which also concluded on Sunday.

Cairns was the best positioned on the standings for the crew on 29th with scores of 76, 67, 71, 71 for a three under par overall finish, 12 strokes behind winner Wallie Coetsee of South Africa.

Charamba was 12 rungs below Cairns with scores of 73, 72, 69, 75.

Sheldon Steyn, Ignatius Mketekete, Greg Bentley, Phillip Tshuma and Shingi Shumba (amateur) all failed to make the cut.
