BODYSLAM will take Zim dancehall a notch higher on Friday as upcoming artistes will, for the first time, dump pre-recording and use a live band

BODYSLAM Entertainment will take Zim dancehall a notch higher on Friday as upcoming artistes will, for the first time, dump pre-recording and use a live band at a show to be held at Stodart Hall in Mbare, Harare.

In the past, only a few dancehall artistes, including Winky D and Sniper, used live bands while the rest of the younger musicians relied on pre-recorded instrumentals.

“We decided to bring in a new flavour to the ghetto Mbare by bringing in a live band act so that we wean off the young artistes to be able to perform in the same way the big names do,” Bodyslam spokesperson Nyasha Chabvuta said.

Artistes like Shinsoman, who is currently riding high with his track Kanoda Kundifurira, Killer T of the Popopo fame, Soul Jah Love, Terminator, dancehall kid Ras Pompy and Maffcat, among a others, will attempt to defy the negative tag associated with pre-recordings when they test their performance over live instruments.

Chabvuta said several dancehall artistes had not been taken seriously because they have been accused of lip-syncing instead of singing during live shows, thus this was their opportunity to prove that they were serious people and “we only look forward to flawless perfomances”.

The show will be held in honour of Bodyslam producer, Michael Murumbi a.k.a. PTK who has produced hit riddims, among them the currently popular Bodyslam riddim that has over 60 upcoming artistes riding on it.

Bodyslam has also been on the forefront of promoting Zim- dancehall by providing studio facilities and facilitating shows for youths in low-class surbubs like Highfield, Budiriro, Mbare amongst many others.

The outfit recently opened a recording studio in Highfield where, on a daily basis, dozens of aspiring artistes get the chance to showcase their artistry.
