A MEMBER of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Nelson Phiri, has ventured into the music industry with the release of his debut sungura six-track album titled Vhurai Nzira.

Songs that makes up the album are, title track Vhurai Nzira, Vhenekero, Ndakanga Ndakuda, Makandidarirei, Kugaro Kuchema and Amai Vevana. Phiri, who prefers to call himself Director on the showbiz, is backed by Orchestra Jack Stars.
Director, who draws his inspiration from the late Leonard Dembo, said releasing the album was a dream come true.
“I started composing songs in 1998, but due to financial constraints I could not record an album in 2004 as I had intended. My basket has more than 80 sungura and 60 English songs that are ready for recording,” Director said.
“I believe this is my year of greatness in the music industry. Very soon I will be releasing my second six-track album titled Ivayi Navo that I am polishing.”
The musician said he is prepared to face stiff competition in the sungura genre.
“I know they is a lot of talent in the sungura genre and it would be tough to make a breakthrough, but I will soldier on to overcome some barriers of the music sector to take my career to greater heights,” he said.

Director said he is much into music that whenever he is free he engages with seasoned artistes seeking ideas and considering undertaking musical lectures.
The musician has already started holding live shows and at present they have performed at various joints in the capital that include Air Port Lounge and City Sports Bar among other joints.
