Since its inception last year, the Carnival had been confined to people living in the capital perhaps without much outreach to other towns.

The gig will witness on–fire Zim-dancehall artistes perform alongside some of the best urban grooves performers who have for a long time been in the music industry.

Topping the bill is man of the moment Soul Jah Love, supported by the likes of Dhadza D, Seh Calaz, Kinnah, Killer T, Freeman, Shinsoman and female Deejay Lady Squanda.

Fashionable urban grooves outfit Mafriq, Pah Chihera, Extra Large, Tererai and raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda and the Sexy Angles are also billed to perform.

South Africa-based urban groover, Enoch “Nox” Guni, Trevor Dongo, Ngoni Kamabarami and controversial rapper Maskiri also comprise the list of performing acts.

Two visiting South African urban musicians are also billed to make guest appearances at the gig and rub shoulders with some of Zimbabwe’s finest acts.

Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa will be the guest of honour at this highly anticipated event.

The gig has been organised by Lucius Jesinawo of Zim-Honey Entertainment in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

In an interview with NewsDay, Jesinawo said: “Our focus is to increase awareness of the Carnival outside Harare and also expand the fortunes of our local artistes, incorporating performing acts in all genres.

“Let us not forget that urban music is part of our musical heritage that will always be written in Zimbabwe’s records, hence music is a pivotal facet that we can use to market ideas,” he said.

He added that the other important concern was to promote domestic tourism since the marketing of Zimbabwe’s diversity starts from the grassroots level.

“We also intend to market our diverse domestic resources and way of life and thus we intend to bring people together through music.”

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Gamuchirayi Kujeke was crowned Miss Carnival Queen 2014 at a ceremony held on Friday night while Yvonne Nyamutsamba and Blessing Makumene were crowned second and first princesses during the opening the Carnival at the Harare International Conference Centre.
