Bosso, City clash

HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu is aware of a potential banana skin when they resume their onslaught on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title this afternoon when they host troubled log anchors Harare City at Barbourfields Stadium.

After beating City 2-0 in the first match at home, Highlanders crumbled 4-0 in the reverse fixture in the capital which effectively put a stop to their championship bid.

Highlanders have picked up 13 points from their opening seven games of the season and two weeks back drew 1-1 with ZPC Kariba at Gwanzura while their opponents this afternoon have a paltry three points from seven games.

But Kaindu is still a cautious man.

“The progress at training has been well. Most of the guys that were injured are back at training except for Mthulisi (Maphosa) and Gabriel (Nyoni). Every game that we play is important and we are not taking anything away for Harare City. They are always a problem when we play them and they had so much damage on us last year and they have got motivation from the win in their last game,” Kaindu said.

Highlanders will be banking on striker Ozias Zibande, who has been scoring the important goals as well as Kuda Mahachi, Charles Sibanda and new Ajax Cape Town signing Milton Ncube with the evergreen Erick Mudzingwa marshalling the midfield.

Welcome Ndiweni has also been having a good game of late.

Coach Bigboy Mawiwi’s stay at Harare City has been on focus in the past weeks, but he will definitely be riding on the win against Triangle.

“It is a very tough assignment as we are coming from picking up our first win and we meet a big club like Highlanders, who are on top of their game. It is a worry for us and there are no easy games in the league. But all the same we have the same philosophy and what we want to do is win. Everything is good in camp. We are one happy family,” Mawiwi said.

City have in their books the likes of Martin Vengesayi, William Manondo, Misheck Mburayi, Nathan Ziwini, Crybert Muvuti, Arnold Chivheya and David Kutyauripo.

They have picked up a paltry three points from seven outings, not an enviable run for a coach who was crowned the Castle Lager Coach of the Year last season after his side finished third on the log, tied on points with champions Dynamos.

Things have not been rosy of late at City with outspoken chairman Leslie Gwindi still clinging to power despite being booted out last week. Gwindi has reportedly been replaced by Alois Masepe.

Mawiwi has also been asked to bring in new assistants, meaning David George would soon bite the dust.
