THE trial of Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) former finance director Perpetual Joy Ndekwere, who is facing charges of defrauding the tertiary institution of $6 000, begins today.

Ndekwere is currently out of custody on $100 bail. ZOU is being represented by Vice-Chancellor Primrose Kurasha in the matter.
Allegations against Ndekwere are that sometime in 2011, the university received numerous letters which were addressed to the ZOU Council citing allegations of fraud.
This eventually forced the university’s council chair to engage AMG Global to carry out a forensic audit.
Ndekwere was stationed at the Stanley House ZOU offices in the capital. The audit report established that Ndekwere had made a double claim on a Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) subscription fee refund on March 10 2011.
The court heard that the former finance director had already reimbursed the claim on January 24.
It was established that the reimbursement came as a result of $6 000 paid to ZIMCHE subscriptions by Ndekwere sometime in December 2010 using her own money.
