The incident which left Chinamano residents stunned occurred on April 7 this year at the house where the couple resided.

According to the State papers, all hell broke loose on the day at around 23:50 hours when Mugoma allegedly received a call from his former girlfriend, whose identity was not revealed in the court papers. The court heard that the young couple had a heated argument over the issue prompting Mugoma to decide to walk out of the room, but his angry wife would not let him leave.

The State alleges Muchawa (21) locked the door from inside thereby preventing Mugoma from exiting the room prompting him to retire to bed.

Oblivious of the impending danger, Mugoma then went ahead and slept on the couple’s bed, but while he was asleep, Muchawa took her time to boil cooking oil while harbouring her intentions.

The State alleges that while Mugoma was fast asleep, Muchawa approached the bed with a pot of boiling cooking oil which she then emptied on Mugoma’s head resulting in him sustaining severe burns all over the head. Mugoma was rescued by his brother who took him to the police where the matter was reported, leading to Muchawa’s arrest.

However, through her lawyer Obey Shava, Muchawa pleaded not guilty to an attempted murder charge when she appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe and she was remanded out of custody to May 22 for trial.
