Grace Muchawa of Overspill, in the sprawling settlement on the outskirts of Harare, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe yesterday.

She was remanded in custody to April 22 2014. According to the State outline, Muchawa and her husband, whose name was not disclosed in the court papers, had a misunderstanding around midnight on April 7 2014.

After the argument had subsided, it is alleged, the complainant retired to bed.

While he was asleep, it is alleged that Muchawa, who was still in a fit of rage, boiled cooking oil and poured it all over her husband’s face. The complainant, who is still admitted in hospital, sustained severe burns on his face.

Muchawa allegedly contravened sections 189 and 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
