Comedy lovers are in for a treat at this year’s Harare International festival of Arts (Hifa) with a vibrant list of seven local comedians scheduled to rock the country’s premium festival.

Comedy lovers are in for a treat at this year’s Harare International festival of Arts (Hifa) with a vibrant list of seven local comedians scheduled to rock the country’s premium festival.

According to the Hifa programme released this week, this year’s comedy shows will feature renowned comics Carl Joshua Ncube, Q, Simba the Comic, Andrew Manyika, Cde Fatso, Michael Kudakwashe and Clive Chigubu.

Ugandan David Kibbuka, Malawian Daliso Chiponda, Tatts Nkonzo and Ben Vos make up the list of foreign comedians.

Ncube, one of the country’s top stand-up comedians will perform at a show featuring his particular brand of hilarious stand-up, mixed with a healthy dose of social messaging. The comedian exploded onto the scene with his debut show Carl Joshua Ncube’s Biggest Announcement, which launched his career.

He has showcased his talent alongside popular South African comedians that include Mel Miller, Dave Levinsohn, and Kedibone Mulaudzi among others.

Kibbuka being a regular on the stand-up comedy circuit has performed at comedy venues like Tanx Café, Comedy Underground, Parkers and the Blues room in neighbouring South Africa.

The winner of annual South African Comic Choice Awards for 2012 Tats Nkonzo will also make an appearance with his arsenal of humour, intellect and guitar.

His musical gift complements his comic performance.

Barely Legal will present a one-man show by Malawian Chaponda whose previous show Feed this black man was shown at Hifa 2011.

The cast of Seventy Five Percent which attacks everything from social and political taboos will feature three leading Zimbabwean comedians including Comrade Fatso, Michael Kudakwashe and Clive Chigubu.

WTF, a hilarious comedy show, will feature some of the leading lights of the comedy scene as well as a surprise new-kid-on-the-block.

Ben Voss returns to Hifa with his comic master class Bend it like beauty.
