CARLINGTON Nyadombo was over the weekend honoured by his club AmaZulu while Willard Katsande is heavily tipped to win the South African Premiership top gong as Zimbabwean players continue to capture the imagination of football fans in the South African league.

The 28-year-old Nyadombo was voted the clubs’ player of the Month for March following a string of good performances for the KZN side who moved to fourth position on the log standings after their 2-1 victory over Free State Stars on Saturday.

“It’s a great feeling to be honoured in this way at this stage of the season. I think the technical staff and my teammates have seen something and the hard work that I’ve been putting in lately.

“They’ve congratulated me in this form which to me is a morale booster,” said Nyadombo. Nyadombo received a cheque worth R2 000 and a voucher for a night’s stay for two at Durban’s Suncoast Hotel Towers.

This is not the first time the towering Warriors defender has won accolades at AmaZulu, a club he joined in 2006.

He won the same award twice in September and October of 2011, and for February of 2012, the year which he capped off by winning the club’s Player of the Season and the Player’s Player of the Season.

Nyadombo’s great performance epitomises the growing influence the Zimbabwean players continue to have in the Absa Premiership every week.

Katsande is arguably the best performer of all the Zimbabwean players in the SuperDiski and the Kaizer Chiefs midfield enforcer is heavily tipped to be crowned the South African Premiership Player of the Season.

He has won five Man of the Match accolades for his side this season, who remained at the top of the log despite their 1-0 weekend loss to second placed Sundowns.

Chiefs are just six games away from successfully defending their league title.

“The talk of Player of the Season is secondary in my mind,” Katsande is quoted on Kaizer Chiefs’ official website.

“What I want to do is to help my team win things. If we continue to play as a team, we will reach our goal,” added Katsande.

Katsande and Kingston Nkhata played the full match in the loss to Sundowns while Matthew Rusike played the last 12 minutes. Khama Billiat and Cuthbert Malajila both came from the bench for Sundowns, the later on his return following an injury.

Tendai Ndoro is another player who continues to capture the imagination of soccer fans with his scoring exploits for modest club Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The Warriors striker scored his seventh league goal in his team’s 2-1 loss at home to Wits University on Saturday, which puts him within three goals of the league top goalscorer Bernard Parker.

In an interview on his club’s website Ndoro, who joined the club midway through the season said he targeting the Golden Boot award next season . . ., but with six rounds of fixtures still to go, he can still do it this season.

He played the whole match for Aces and so did Onisimor Bhasera for Wits while Denver Mukamba (Wits) and Energy Murambadoro (Aces) were unused substitutes in that match.

Washington Arubi was also on the receiving end after his side Pretoria University lost 2-1 to Polokwane City with the Warriors first choice goalie playing 90 minutes.

Takesure Chinyama made a return to the Platinum Stars fold, playing the last 20 minutes of his side’s 1-0 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic.

In Europe, Costa Nhamoinesu club Sparta Praha maintained an eight point lead at the top of the Czech Liga with a 1-0 win away to Slovácko. Praha are yet to lose a match this season with Nhamoinesu taking part in every minute of the 23 matches played so far.

Silas Songani lasted for 78 minutes in his side Sønderjyske’s 2-0 loss away to København to remain rooted at the bottom of the Danish Super league with five games remaining while Quincy Antipas was an 85th minute for Brondby who earned a 1-0 win over Esbjerg to keep their Europa League spot.

In Vietnam, Justice Majabvi scored his third goal of the season to guide his side Hai Phong to a 1-1 draw against Hoang Anh.
