THE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) board yesterday reversed the recent decision to re-assign managers, arguing there was no consultation as required on the matter.

Board chairman Father Gibson Munyoro confirmed the development yesterday saying the decision had been reversed with immediate effect before the new team could commence their new duties.

“The re-assignments were not done in consultation with the board and without the advice of the board. We have asked the chief executive officer to rescind the decision,” Munyoro said.

“This is a period of transition and the forensic audit is in progress so it will be shooting ourselves in the foot if we allow that to happen.

“The position is we were not consulted and people should go back to their usual roles.”

Munyoro said any movements or changes to take place within the national broadcaster should be presented to the board for consideration and strategic discernment before being announced and effected.

Deputy Minister of Media, Information and Broadcasting Services Supa Mandiwanzira said: “As government, we work through the board and in this particular case, if they have rescinded, it means the matter was handled unprocedurally.”

According to the new appointments announced by acting chief executive officer Allan Chiweshe, only to be rescinded yesterday, former news editor-in-chief Chris Chivinge had bounced back as head of news and current affairs taking over from Tazeen Mandizvidza, who had been moved to production and television services.

Josephine Zulu had been assigned to head radio services.

The developments come at a time an audit is being undertaken at the sole broadcaster following suspension of the former board led by Cuthbert Dube and chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere.

Muchechetere is facing criminal charges of abuse of office and currently on bail.

The former ZBC CEO has accused Media and Information permanent secretary George Charamba of causing the rot at the institution by imposing unqualified personnel.
