On Thursday night during the 2014 Carnival launch, the minister left the audience in stitches when he joined Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu on stage in well-choreographed dance routines.

Mzembi, clad in a white shirt, black tie and black trousers, elegantly like the Orchestra Dendera Kings dancers, perfectly matched the Dendera dancers in all aspects that left many puzzled and elated.

After Sulu had churned out a few songs, Mzembi removed his jacket and jumped onto the stage for the dance routines for close to 15 minutes.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke and the deputy minister of Tourism Walter Kanhanga also joined in the dance floor, but like expected, struggled to fit into the Dendera system unlike Mzembi.

Earlier Mzembi had promised to join the scribes in celebrating the carnival launch when he jokingly said there was a somber atmosphere at the launch because members of the fourth estate were yet to partake in “holy waters”.

This year’s Harare International Carnival runs from May 16 to 25 under the theme Celebrating our Diversity.
