HOW MINE came back from behind to pick up their first set of three points when they beat Shabanie Mine in a drab Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

The gold miners were brought back into the game by a Menard Mupera gem of a goal on the stroke of half-time, cancelling out Ashley Mukwenya’s 19th minute strike for Shabanie, before George Magariro scored the winner in the 72nd minute.

Conspicuous by his absence in the How Mine line-up was captain Gilbert Banda, whom head coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube said has been absent without official leave since the draw against Chapungu at Ascot Stadium on Sunday.

Ncube yesterday said the team’s participation in the Caf Confederations Cup had drained them, but they were gradually picking up form after losing their first two matches to Dynamos and Bantu Rovers before the goalless draw against Chapungu last weekend.

“On the technical aspect, our participation in the Caf Confederation Cup drained us, but we are starting somewhere and we will catch up with others,” Ncube said.

“We will take each game as it comes. I am not under pressure at all.” Kuda Musharu could have made it three minutes after Magariro’s goal when he beat an offside trap and dribbled past goalkeeper Victor Twaliki only to hit the side netting.

Shabanie Mine head coach John Phiri blamed the loss on the match officiating.

Phiri thought Magariro was in an offside position when he finished off the rebound from a Mupera shot.

It was their second loss of the season after the 1-4 defeat by Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium last weekend.

With the win, How Mine moved to 11th position on the log standings with four points while Shabanie Mine remained on fifth position, two points above their opponents yesterday.
