Despite the delayed start of the programme, the crowd which consisted mostly of high school students had their patience repaid when Marbel and her group Thousand Voices hit the stage to unleash a string of praise songs that electrified the atmosphere.

Sporting a beautiful blue dress that could neither be described as simple nor elegant, with her captivating stage presence and a powerful voice, the songbird started off with her hit song, Ndakafara, which had the crowd screaming.

A number of popular praise songs and remixes followed through and ensured the crowd was kept on its feet and sweating despite the cold Eastern Highlands weather. The energetic Thousand Voices dancers led the crowd through various dance routines as Marbel sampled some of her latest songs which included Mighty God and Makomborero.

She then switched and turned into worship mode creating a soulful spiritual atmosphere.

Marbel closed off the show with her late sister’s hit, Mazuva Acho, which left the crowd shouting for more.

Speaking to NewsDay after the show, Madondo expressed her appreciation for the fans and urged them to keep on supporting her music.

“The girls were really excited, the atmosphere was great. I appreciate the support and will keep on spreading the Word of God through music,” Madondo said.

“When I was singing, I could feel the spirit of the Lord moving. There was healing, deliverance and upliftment.”

Most of the students were thrilled to see one of their icons on stage and expressed gratitude for a chance to watch the celebrated gospel artiste.

“I am so excited to meet Marbel. She is one of my favourite artistes and for her to humble herself and come perform for us is amazing”, Kudzai, a Form 4 student at the school said.

Madondo is also part of Zimpraise, the country’s biggest gospel group.
