Madinda wins third straight Bots title

FORMER Warriors and Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu has made history in Botswana after he won the Botswana be Mobile Premier Soccer League for the third consecutive season, this time around with Township Rollers.

FORTUNE MBELE

He becomes the first coach and a foreigner to win the Botswana top-flight football league three times in a row.

Ndlovu’s side beat Miscellaneous 1-0 away in his last match at Serowe Stadium on Saturday afternoon to win the championship, which he also won twice with Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

Township Rollers won the 2013-14 title with 64 points after winning 18 matches, drawing 10 times and losing two matches 0-1 to Extension Gunners and 0-2 to Motlakatse Power Dynamos at the beginning of the season and never lost a game after that.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs, the team Ndlovu won the last two titles with, ended the season on position four with 60 points with another former Warriors and Highlanders legend Rahman Gumbo ending the season on position three with Gaborone United, a team that he joined recently.

Ndlovu took over Mochudi Centre Chiefs from Gumbo in 2011 when the latter left Botswana to join local side FC Platinum.

Rollers won the Botswana championship in the 2009-2010 season with Gumbo when Terrence Mandaza, who is now at Maritzburg United in the South African Premier Soccer League, was the top goal scorer.

Gaborone United was tied with league runners-up BDF XI on 61 points with the army side having a superior six-goal difference.

Centre Chiefs would have ended runners-up, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Ecco City Greens on Saturday and a win would have ended them with 62 points.

Gumbo’s Gaborone United beat FC Satmos 3-2 away from home in their last game and it will definitely be a tough competition for the two Zimbabwean gaffers in the be Mobile League next season.

Tafic, which was coached by another Zimbabwean coach Darlington Dodo fell by the way side after ending the season at the bottom of the log-standings with a mere 21 points from 30 games.
