Mutasa joined the Zvishavane based side last season as a stop-gap measure replacing interim Tendai Chikuni who was left at the helm following the departure of Zambian expatriate Tenant Chilumba.

He went on to post some good results which convinced the club’s executive to give him a two-year contract.

However, despite bring widely touted as one of the top contenders to halt Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa’s dominance, FC Platinum have found the going tough in the early stages of the new season.

The platinum miners followed up their 1-all draw with Chiredzi FC in the Lowveld with an energy-sapping 2-3 defeat to Hwange at home on Saturday.

Despite the false start to the season, Mutasa says he is not panicking either.

“It is too early though for us to start crying and pressing alarm bells, but we need to start picking points.

“Against Hwange we conceded three goals from setpieces and that is unacceptable at this level of the game. We will work on the grey areas ahead of our next assignments and I am confident the guys will come right,” said Mutasa.

Mutasa has, however, been under pressure from a section of fans to play his son Wisdom regularly and from the team that lost to Hwange. The young Mutasa’s calm control of the midfield was greatly missed with the team losing the midfield battle after taking what promised to be a healthy 2-nil lead.

Wisdom has shown that he is one of the best central midfielders in the country, but surprisingly his father is not yet convinced of his abilities.

“He is still a youngster and there are a lot of things that he has to learn,” said Mutasa evading to comment much about his son.

FC Platinum’s next assignment is a visit to Harare where they will play champions Dynamos in the Independence Cup final on Friday.
