ZIMBABWE’S premier arts showcase the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) roars to life tomorrow with several thrills lined up for enthusiasts.

Running under the theme Switch On, the festival’s thrust this year is on using the arts to portray the lives of Zimbabweans.

“Hifa is a call to ignite our potential for luminous transformation and this year, it highlights our capacities and aims to radiate our communal light around the world, the positive rays of Hifa 2014 will open eyes and open hearts,” read a statement from Hifa.

Festival lovers will, therefore, be switched tahrough master class performances in genres such as music, theatre, film and poetry amongst others.

On the first day, fans will witness a glimpse of what lies ahead throughout the six days of fun with local theatre productions like Lovers in Time and performances such as one-man comedy shows from our own Carl Joshua Ncube, with kids being catered for by the Hifa kids programme.

Also to look forward to on the theatre scene will be the Zimbabwe-US exchange play She and He, fresh from its Zambian appearance at the April International Theatre Festival held at the Lusaka Playhouse.

Hifa also continues to provide a platform to display different lifestylse and fashion trends through its fashion shows.

South African Toya Delazy and Kenyan-based mbira songstress Queen Mashie will also perform among other foreign musicians.

Local multi-National Arts Merit Awards winner Jah Prayzah will perform on the final day at the Telecel main stage while the Zimdancehall blast will close the show in style at the Coca-Cola Green Stage. The Zimdancehall lineup includes Killer T, Dadza D, Ricky Fire, Lady Squanda and Platinum Prince all backed by Hotta Fire.

Hifa is the largest cultural event in Zimbabwe which brings huge audiences together to celebrate diverse cultures.
