MAMELODI Sundowns midfielder Khama Billiat’s season appears to be over, with the player revealing that he would not recover from the injury he suffered last week to finish the season.

Billiat was substituted after just 15 minutes during the Nedbank Cup game against Orlando Pirates at Loftus Stadium last Saturday with a foot injury.

The Warriors winger suffered the same injury in February this year.

He was present at Sundown’s 1-0 triumph over Mpumalanga Black Aces on Wednesday night, walking on crutches and sporting a brace for his ankle. He later confirmed the bad news on his Facebook page, saying: “Hard luck soccer lovers, you will only see me next season.”

Earlier on, his coach Pitso Mosimane had told the South African media: “Khama is still injured. He’s got a moon-boot on.”

He added: “I think he’s out for the rest of the season. We will miss him. We miss all the players who are out. It’s going to be tough. We play again on Sunday (without Billiat), but we go on.”

The 23-year-old has been in superb form since his arrival at Sundowns from Ajax Cape Town and was arguably one of the South African Premiership standout performers, alongside players like Warriors-mate Willard Katsande who is at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates’ Oupa Manyisa and Sibusiso Vilakazi Vilakazi.

The injury is a big blow to Sundowns who will have to do without the services of their talisman for their remaining three matches of the season, starting with the away match to Moroka Swallows tomorrow.

The Brazilians will be hoping to hang on to top spot and eventually clinch the league title under the noses of Kaizer Chiefs and Wits University.

Sundowns are also yet to play SuperSport United and will wrap up their season with a match against Terrance Mandaza’s Maritzburg United on 14 May.
