BOTSWANA musician Charma Girl has hailed Jah Prayzah for managing to bring together different artistes to work together on his album scheduled to be launched tonight at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

The musician, who is known for her role as the lead singer for Culture Spears, said it is high time musicians unite for a better industry.

“It is good that Jah Prayzah has brought together different artistes like Oliver Mtukudzi and many others to work with him on this project. It shows that artistes now realise how important it is to unite,” she said.

“We should not act like politicians. In fact, politicians appear to fight in public yet they work together in the background and fool the people into fighting. As musicians, if we are to fight let us leave the music to fight when we perform on stage.”

The musician, however, expressed how she longs to live in the ghetto instead of a hotel.

After her arrival in Harare on Monday she was booked into the Rainbow Towers Hotel which she says is not her style.

“I like staying in a small house even with one blanket not all this air conditioned room.  I am not comfortable here. I want to go out there and meet the people,” Charma Girl said.

Jah Prayzah collaborated with Charma Girl on a track titled Dali Wangu that will be on the new album.

The lanky musician faces a mammoth task holding his launch at the HICC where Mtukudzi will be holding his Greatest Hits Concert next week.

But organiser of the launch Benji Nyandoro, said they have played their part.

“We had 30 tables on sale at $300 each and I am glad to say, by today (yesterday) we have sold 23 and we are confident by the time of launch we would have sold all of them,” Nyandoro said.

He said although it will be tough to fill the over 4 000-sitter auditorium, they hoped fans will come in their numbers.

“We have held several launches before at smaller venues, but fans often fail to gain access and that is how we got to choose the HICC,” Nyandoro said.

Musicians like Sulumani Chimbetu and Ammara Brown are expected to perform with full bands, while Tuku will feature on other artistes’ sets to perform duets.
