The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has engaged consultant Ephraim Chizola to organise the potentially explosive carnival scheduled for May 20 at a local hotel.

Chizola said the event, that will run under the theme Honouring Our Past Celebrating Our Diversity, would bring back memories.

“Blast from the Past is an event meant to create a platform to appreciate and celebrate the rich and diverse past of our local musicians’ contribution to the growth of the industry,” Chizola said.

“We are going to be honoring various artistes who include Oliver Mtukudzi, Busi Ncube and the late Paraffin, among others.

“On the day, we are expecting the attendees to dress in old fashion, yesteryear hairstyles, and makeup that reflects that past and there is also a category for the oldest but intact vehicle.”

Chizola said the night’s main attraction was the awards ceremony which would see an appreciation by captains of industries, of musicians who have stood the test of time.

“For the selection of the corporates awards nominees, the most vital qualification to be nominated is to be 10 years and above in the same trade with a traceable record and official documentation with recommendation through consultation with the categories’ industry governing board,” Chizola explained.

“The event will also encompass a fashion show, live band jamming of old school music and brand promotion activities.”

Chizola said on the entertainment side, a live band was set to play songs selected by the delegates at the event.

“Prior to the event, the delegates can forward a list of suggested songs that can be played for them to embrace the blasts from the past.”
