TELONE, Zimbabwe’s State owned fixed telecommunications operator responded to the corporate social responsibility call by donating goods to the flood victims of the Tokwe-Mukorsi tragedy this week at their centre for learning institution.

The official handover of goods was presented by TelOne Managing Director Chipo Mtasa to the civil authorities via Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and national Housing Hon Joe Biggie Mutiza, while ICT minister Dr Win Mlambo and Deputy Minister of Education, Sport and Culture Hon Lazarus Dokora looked on.
The goods presented included non-perishable foods, clothing, footware and blankets in a truckload .
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the TelOne Managing Director, Chipo Mutasa said, “This is our small way we have also to show concern to the victims of the floods as they grapple with the disaster that has befallen them”. “This move was also a way of heeding to calls by Government for all to assist those that have been affected”, she said, thanking TelOne employees for their good heart in contributing to such a noble initiative.
The Deputy Minister of Information, communication Technologies, Postal and Courier services Hon Win Mlambo thanked TelOne for their social responsibility and ploughing back into the community and their sharing in the suffering of the affected communities. He also encouraged other corporates and individuals alike to emulate the good work done by TelOne and its employees.
Also Speaking while receiving the goods, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and national Housing, Hon Joe Biggie Matiza said, “It is obvious that TelOne is strongly committed to supporting Zimbabweans as seen by their noble gesture”, stating that “this gesture is peculiar and unique in that it involved all the staff of TelOne, who partnered with their employer in answer to this plight of the victims of the floods.”
He also noted that during the cyclone Eline disaster of 2000, “TelOne was actively involved in multifaceted humanitarian responses that included the provision of emergency tollfree lines to ensure speedy conveyance of crucial information from disaster stricken areas to the decision makers”.

He added that the organisation had also maintained operational emergency numbers in an endeavour to save both lives and property of the Zimbabwean citizenry, saying “the donation will go a long way in mitigating the challenges facing the Zimbabwean citizenry who lost individual and collective property”.
Hon Minister Matiza said the government is optimistic that all the donations that have been received will be properly accounted for and reach the intended victims.” Among the goods donated, the truckload had 2 000kg mealie meal, 300l c/oil 600kg sugar, 100kg sugar beans, 10 boxes of green bar washing soap, 20l buckets of dry kapenta, salt, soya chunks, 200 blankets, exercise books, 20 sleeper tents, clothes and shoes.
