Lion escapes from park

THE Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) has warned residents in Greater Harare to be on high alert after a male lion broke out of Lion and Cheetah Park yesterday morning and sought refuge in the dense forests around the park.

Zimparks spokesperson Caroline Washaya-Moyo said initially four lions had escaped, but the other three were immediately captured and caged.

She warned residents against travelling at night and to avoid using narrow paths covered by tall grass.

“People around Bolton, Flame Lily, Tongogara, Snake World and other surrounding areas should avoid walking at night and avoid tall grass until the lion, still at large, has been captured,” Washaya-Moyo said.

“The Zimparks officials will maintain their presence until the male adult lion is captured and restored to its enclosure. One male and two female lions have already been captured.”
