Initially, the album had been scheduled for the first quarter of the year, but Charamba on Friday told NewsDay vaguely that the album would be released this year.

The Machira Chete singer was speaking on the sidelines of Saiwe Chimbetu’s album launch at Kingstons House in the capital Harare on Friday night.

“I cannot issue a date or month of the release of the new album, but what I can tell you is that our schedule falls within this year and we are going according to plan,” Charamba said.

Quizzed about the album, Charamba could not even disclose its title, saying he wanted to make the album a surprise package.

“I cannot reveal the title of the album at the moment, but what I can say is that we have never released an album with less than eight songs,” Charamba said. Apparently, this may come as a reaction to Trymore Bande’s album that was released and marketed under Charamba’s name.

The album caused confusion on the market with gospel music lovers scrambling for the fake album that seemed to have been produced specifically to dislodge Charamba.

Although Charamba has in the past refused to comment on the issue, it appeared he was trying not to be caught flat-footed again, thus releasing as little information to the public as possible.

Meanwhile, Saiwe, who is sister to Sulumani, launched her second gospel album Simba Rekutenda at a colourful ceremony that was attended by Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment minister Francis Nhema as the guest of honour, Pax Gomo, Amanda Sagonda, Jennifer Muneni and Allan Chimbetu, among others.

Speaking at the event, Nhema commended the artistes that attended the launch.

“The spirit of unity shown by some of the musicians who have come to support Saiwe must be commended. As artistes, you have to keep supporting each other,” Nhema said.

“Charamba and you Pax, guide our last born in this industry.”

Simba Rekutenda is a fusion of dendera and rhumba beats and carries tracks Anopindura, Handisarire, Ndodaidza, Sesemere, Kushandura, Anondidana and Munoera.

The CD was auctioned for $130 with Sulumani Chimbetu paying the $100 in absentia through his brother Ali as he is currently in United Kingdom for the Greatest Hits Concert Tour together with Oliver Mtukudzi.
