The appeal is aimed at raising funds for the production of a musical album to promote libraries and a reading culture among children.

According to a statement from ZRSLT, the trust believes music is a powerful tool to communicate important messages hence their adoption of music as an advocacy tool.

“The planned album will contain songs about the importance of reading and the need for libraries as strategic planks in the development of a sustainable education system in the country,” read the statement.

“Some of the songs on the album will inform society about the type and nature of resources that libraries can provide.” Musicians who have contributed to the proposed album include Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, Jesse O’brien of New Zealand, Oliver Mtukudzi, Jeys Marabini, Evans Farai Mudzengerere, Sipho Sithole, Leonard Zhakata and yet-to-be recorded 14-year-old Faith Kunaka.

Efforts are also being made to invite child musicians and Jah Prayzah to participate on the album.

The statement said ZRSLT is also appealing to other musicians interested in contributing songs to the album to join in the national effort.

A fundraising musical show, open to the public, will take place after the official launch ceremony.

ZRSLT was formed and legally registered in 2012 with one of its aims being to establish and develop rural school libraries.
