KAIZER Chiefs and Warriors defender Lincoln Zvasiya is facing a nightmarish six months on the side-lines

KAIZER Chiefs and Warriors defender Lincoln Zvasiya is facing a nightmarish six months on the side-lines after his ABSA premiership outfit failed to find a club for him for a loan.

Zvasiya is contracted to Kaizer Chiefs, but was not registered to play in the South African premier league this season following his six-month loan spell with Greek side OFI Crete from July last year.

The former FC Platinum defender could not be registered with Chiefs upon his return as the club had already exhausted its foreign quota.

Amakhosi were reported to be mooting a loan deal for the defender to join Dynamos, but the deal did not materialise with DeMbare said to be in favour of a season long deal than a short term one.

Upon return, Zvasiya seemed destined to join Harare City, but the city fathers are reported to have sent their final list of players to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) without his name.

In an exclusive interview with NewsDay Sport Kaizer Chiefs Corporate Communications Manager Vina Maphosa confirmed that they have failed to find a club for Zvasiya this season.

“He is back in Zimbabwe. We have not found a team for him since his contract in Greece was cancelled midseason. We are working on next season for his move,” said Maphosa.

But Harare City coach Bigboy Mawiwi gave some glimmer of hope on Zvasiya’s prospects of joining them by admitting that he is yet to finalise his squad for this season though the defender’s name is not on the 25-man squad submitted to PSL.

“I cannot continue to comment about one player. But what I can tell you is that I have not yet finalised my squad for this season,” said Mawiwi.

The latest setback is likely to cost him a place in Ian Gorowa’s side with Erick Chipeta and Partson Jaure doing an incredible job as Warriors’ twin centre backs ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations 2015 qualifiers that will start in May.

AmaZulu vice-captain Carlington Nyadombo is also in the Warriors line.

Zvasiya is not the only Zimbabwean to have found the going tough in Europe after Knowledge Musona and Onismor Bhasera recently made unceremonious decisions to depart European football in favour of the South African super Diski.
