Paul Gorekore was remanded in custody after Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe ruled that he would preside over his bail application today.

Gorekore, who is being represented by lawyer Benjamin Chikowero, is alleged to have been on the run since the arrest of his alleged accomplices two weeks ago. The MDC-T members allegedly assaulted Mangoma at the party headquarters in Harare on February 15 accusing him of pushing for party leader Morgan Tsvangirai to step down.

Mangoma claims to have sustained bodily injuries, a torn shirt and broken spectacles.

The other five suspects — Francis Machimbidzofa (38), EnockMukudu (31), Stefani Jahwi (36), Samson Nerwande (41) and James Chidhakwa –have since appeared before the same court where four of them were granted $100 bail while Chidhakwa is still in custody fighting for his freedom.
