All in Zanu PF tainted with corruption — Tsvangirai

MDC-T leader and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday hit out at Zanu PF’s commitment to weed out corrupt elements within its rank and file, describing the ruling party’s approach as lethargic.

In a statement, Tsvangirai said if Zanu PF was to take the bull by the horns and confront the vice head-on, it would be left without any followers as all of them would be jailed on corruption charges.

But Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo yesterday said his party did not condone corruption and would deal decisively with the scourge.
Tsvangirai said corruption, as exposed in the media, was shameful and needed government to take action.

“But there is lethargy on the part of Zanu PF to deal with this scourge because everyone in that party will be in jail if we become serious as a country on graft and unmitigated corruption,” Tsvangirai said.

In reference to President Robert Mugabe’s outburst against former Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa for allegedly soliciting a $6 million bribe from a Ghanaian businessman, Tsvangirai said it was surprising why no action had been taken.

“Now the President’s own spokesperson (George Charamba) has put his hands in the till and his own deputy (Joice Mujuru) in her capacity as Acting President, has threatened newspapers and nameless detractors for exposing corruption,” the MDC-T leader said.
Tsvangirai said there should be no sacred cows when dealing with corruption, adding the country’s failure to address corruption was exacerbated by a weak anti-graft body.
However, in statement, Gumbo said “the Presidium (Mugabe, Mujuru and party national chairperson Simon Khaya Moyo) were determined to root out corruption” which he described as an “intricate” issue which  needed  a comprehensive plan and policy to deal with.
“Those involved in corrupt activities must and will face the full wrath of the law and we are determined to make this a reality. For our part, and for the avoidance of any doubt, we wish to make it known that we will take decisive measures to eradicate corruption in all its forms.”
Contradicting Mujuru who over the weekend blasted the media for exposing corruption, Gumbo said: “We would also like to thank the media, both public and private, for their concerted efforts in bringing this shameful situation to public light.”

    1. Why always want to respond to a problem when it has destroyed the nation , citizens , industry, communities and families. We have people in offices who are sleeping on duty and continue to protect those who loot resources. In my opinion even Cde Chihuri will not be able to arrest or investigate most of these culprits, because they will let his cat out of the bag too. We have been robbed at roadblocks and cried out loud, but Mr Chihuri never rescued us but instead referred us to the same person “policeman” abusing us for help. How realistic is this? Zanu pf should never talk of mai Mujuru and all these big guys for succession but should consider young ministers like Nhema , Muzembi if ever they like this country to progress.

  2. Tafadzwa Chigwande

Corruption should not be condoned anywhere and in all its manifestations. However, Tsvangirai should be the last person to lecture us about corruption. If he had a conscience he would also resign as he has been a beneficiary of corruption.

    1. Jeremiah R Mubaiwa

Mr Tafadzwa, comment only, than make anyone to resign. An opposition party will only give term of office after winning presidential elections hence the term of office become enforce not before that, Tsvangira and team will work until they win elections which will never happen if the Mudede’s rigging system is still in place. This is why all military chiefs are still in place with no further developments to the junior officers who are never to rise because of them senior ranks.
So lets focus on the corruption than telling people what to do,Mugabe has been in power over three decades but you have never told him to resign. THINK ABOUT.

      1. The MDC presided over most of the ministries where corruption is coming from..the least they can do is shut up. Their Moyo was in charge of Parastatals, what did he do then..ZERO. Now he is trying to lie to everyone that there is nothing he could do..Why did he not let the media have the schedule of the shocking salaries. The MDC might have been cheated at the last election but they did no better where corruption is concerned..they were the most vocal for those two cars each. The only person who should be allowed to talk about corruption is David Coltart as he is the only cabinet minister who refused to accept the new car syndrome.

    2. Well said. Tsvangson is like a parrot: somebody else has to give him a topic to echo. Never thinks on his own and the biggest stooge we ever had in this country! Vana Chidhakwa naana Mangoma should take over and if necessary create a new party from both zanu & mdc taking only young & brilliant minds not yet fully corrupted. Tsvangson of all people going jaba jaba this jaba jaba that, relying on sanctions to get a job! Get a life or a lady and shut up!

      1. How true, the parrot thing is spot on!

  3. Tabeth Mombeshora

A case of the pot calling the kettle black. Kusekana kwana kamba. Tsvangirai kutsvaga relevance, tibvirepo apa. Iwe hauna kuba mari yemba yako. Ko zvevakadzi.

    1. Jeremiah R Mubaiwa

Tibeth is out of question MDC T has financial protocol, the party president doesnt sign anything on money but to approve what has been done by Finance and Administration departments and hazvinei nevakadzi.

      1. Hahahahaha what crap! Keep dreaming! Pwotocol Pwotocol my foot!

  4. Cde Mzvinavhu(Prof)

Biti & Mombeshora presided over the two ministries that looked after PSMAS during the GNU! Even if the rot started b4 GNU, did the two ministers condone the corruption during their 4yr tenures? MDCT had parastatals ministry too! So Morgan should not hide behind his lecherous finger !

    1. Jeremiah R Mubaiwa

Cde Professor, thank the public that your corrupt Cdes have been exposed and the party should act to prove themselves than you pointing a finger to Tsvangirai. It is very shameful for people of caliber to comment on such unforeseen comments,Tsvangira and team were in Mugabe’s corrupt government after how many years of corruption.

      1. @Jeeremiah- So instead of arresting the rot, he joined it..and to you there is nothing wrong with this?

  5. YES MY PRESIDENT TSVANGIRAI, PLEASE DONT COMMENT ON THIS. WE THE PEOPLE KNOW THAT ALREADY. THE BEST IS TO CLEAN YOURSELF SO THAT PEOPLE WILL NOT PAINT YOU WITH THE SAME BRUSH. AND WHEN IT COMES TO THE TIME FOR TO RULE YOU HAVE PROVED TO THEM THAT YOU ARE DIFFERENT.
AS FOR YOU RUGARE, YOUR PARTY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS CORRUPTION ESPECIALLY THAT YOU ARE SAYING MUJURU, KHAYA MOYO AND THE PRESIDENT ARE INNOCENT, SOON YOU WILL BE SAYING MPOFU, CHARAMBA, JONATHAN ETC AND EVEN DUBE ARE INNOCENT. TSVANGIRAI IS CORRECT. IF WE GO ON WITH THIS YOUR WHOLE PARTY WILL BE DOOMED. THAT’S IT. LETS SEE. ANYWAY, THIS ABOUT TO DIE A NATURAL DEATH SINCE A FEW LIKE THE AIR ZIM BOARD HAVE ALREADY BEEN SACRIFISED. AND BY THE WAY THEY WILL BE PAID A LOT FOR AGREEING TO BE SACRIFISED FOR THE SACK OF THE PARTY.

    1. Jeremiah R Mubaiwa

It will die a natural death like the GMB 232 000 000 which Kumbira Kangai stole and he died without a case, hapana anouya kuno investor kana zvichiramba zvakadai, nhasi George Charamba is quote in a web of corruption yet teachers and soldiers are suffering think about it Mugabe this is the chance to root out your corrupt Comrades out of the party and straight to Chirubi Prison and you will die a Heroe that is to say you have implemented it.
      GOOD LUCK ZIMBABWE

Like wt ws there in 1985 to 2000. God he will ansr us or jst give the country to VaMugabe and VaTsvangirai and change all the ministers or every rank and start afresh asi muri kutyanana here?

  8. Mbudzi dzakafura padzakasungirwa. Dzakora manje. Slaughter them paValentines. kiki

  9. zanu is a party of old fools headed by a toothless bull dog. they will never be an uprooting and dealing with the corrupt. there is no one single person in that party who will not be caught on the clean side if they really meant business. what happened to goodwill masimirembwa? they can shout all they can but never get to arresting the culprits.

  10. Mr mdc president is quite right if zanu pf have to uproot corruption the whole party will end up in jail .blaming tsvangirai is only done by the people of zanupf.

    1. The current government is rotten to its gills but that does not say Tssvangirayi and his team are any better..we saw what they did during the GNU. It is actually a blessing in disguise that they were cheated at the polls..they appear with their greed to be more dangerous than ZANU..and what is Tsvangirayi still doing in that government Highlands house if he really was with the people? Why is the mayor of Harare still sitting in that office when he is surrounded by thieves by his own admission..why not follow his finance committee chairman and resign too. The long and short of it is MDC and ZANU are exactly the same, the only difference is the other has been at corruption longer than the other…The more reason why the MDC is crawling on its belly asking ZANU for a GNU2..Shame.

  11. @ falcon, it is not true that the mdc guys are worse than zanu. i think you want justify the thieving which is happening in zanu. all parties have problems, but zanu is the worst and lets admit it. and for us to try and give another chance becoz we are saying other guys are the same is so stupid.

    1. Tsvangirai and MDC should not comment because they slept on duty. During GNU, three ministries under them presided over PSMAS i.e. Health, Public Service and Parastatals and not forgetting Finance

    2. @ sam, who cares who is worse than the other; the results of corruption are the same; the people suffer, poverty worsens while the nation continues to decay. The fact of the matter is, MDC T has proved beyond doubt their ineptitude, corruption and greed; what kind of fool would give them all power to manage a state? In all honesty, if Tsvangirai is not wise to see the need for humility while choosing instead to take the high and mighty route of dishing out chastisement after chastisement and pointing out the sins of others without noticing the log in his own eye, then he is a bigger fool than my previous wild imaginations! Now is the time for him to move out of the mansion, do a lot of shutting up about the sins of others and work on humbly and earnestly seeking to win the hearts of the common rural folks of Zimbabwe, who happen to be the people that actually matter.
