EDZAI ISU Theatre Arts Project has turned its workplace play Hanya Nani? 1 into a short film.

BY ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

The play Hanya Nani? 1 had 300 performances in workplaces courtesy of PSI last year and earned CBZ a Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce business award.

Tafadzwa Muzondo, director of Edzai Isu, said they decided to take the HIV and Aids awareness play further by making it a short film so that it reaches more people.

He said filming was done on real locations like Zvimba East villages, Norwebs Pvt Ltd and Chitubu Junction Beer Hall in Glen Norah.

“We on Friday made sure we used real locations to maintain a theatre flow,” said Muzondo adding that the final cut would be available by end of week.

Written, directed and produced by Muzondo with James Mukwindidza and Everson Ndlovu as associate producers, the short film project has seasoned film maker Marian Kunonga as its technical director.

Muzondo said the team was complemented by James Jemwa directing photography, Wilfred Chidyausiku as sound and production designer and Florence Gambe doing make up and wardrobe.

Rutendo Phiri (Theatre Arts student at the University of Zimbabwe) and Terence Munyoro (apprentice at Chihera Films) were the trainee production assistants.

“I am privileged to have worked with these seasoned film makers and grateful they believed in our idea,” Muzondo said.

“I am also thrilled to offer a mentorship platform for the film and theatre students who were trainees in this project.

“I am grateful for the technical support this project got from Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust.”

In the film Hanya Nani? 1 a qualified and fun-loving electrician Lovejoy disregards the importance of HIV and Aids programmes but does not realise the attitude compromises his efficiency at work.

He neglects his peers’ advice and fails to benefit from an HIV positive supervisor who has come out openly managing to live over 15 years.

He goes through a torrid time back home with his disheartened father who laments all his sacrifices towards his education and eventually succumbs to the disease.
