Chikuse was officiating at an event to appoint musician Alick Macheso as the brand ambassador for Nash Paints.

As has become synonymous with the presenter, he narrated an anecdote about how he had started the company together with Tinashe Mutarisi, his boyhood friend and classmate.

Apparently, Nhema, who was the guest of honour, bought the yarn and ended up showering praises at Chikuse throughout his speech.

In his speech, Nhema commended Macheso, who is also humanitarian ambassador for the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, for working with the youths.

“This is an honour for you Macheso as the youths here have shown faith in you. They need you to succeed,” said Nhema.

Mutarisi said they were happy with the response from the event on Friday.

“It looks like we struck the right chord with Macheso on Friday as evidenced by the recent activity on social networks as soon as we posted pictures of the event,” he said.

“Some have requested that we go to their homes and do quotations which is positive.”

The partnership between Macheso and Nash Paints will see the musician appearing on the company’s adverts as well as beneficiaries of Red Cross activities also getting assistance from Nash Paints.

Macheso got a $10 000 signing- on fee and would be paid as and when he is engaged in the company’s activities like road shows.

Meanwhile, the musician said he has severed ties with Laston Murerwa, his partner in Last Power Media.

Macheso said Murerwa would now be specialising in motor spares while he would soon set up his own studio.

“Rains have delayed the commencement of building as I intend to build an external studio at my house in Waterfalls,” he said.

“Everything is there including the equipment that was at the Msasa studio. For now that will be where I will be working from and I will only start signing artistes for recording later.”

He said the studio would be named KwaZora Butter Studios.

The musician said although plans were there to set up a different studio, the one at his house would remain there for personal use.

Takemore Mazuruse, spokesperson for the Red Cross, said they were working on setting up two studios; one for Macheso and the other for use by talented but disadvantaged youths with the help of the sungura ace.

He said the musician had also partnered with a group of Iranians that are in the country for a performance at Harare Gardens on Wednesday.

“The group arrived on Saturday and they will be performing with Macheso in commemoration of the Iranian Revolution,” said Mazuruse.

“The Iranians have also invited Macheso for a tour of Iran in the next few months where he will tour with his band.

“They will be working with the Red Cross in that country in different projects that will also see Macheso benefiting by getting equipment.”
