TWO former MDC-T Redcliff councillors have filed an urgent High Court chamber application challenging their expulsion from the party.
BY CHARLES LAITON SENIOR COURT REPORTER
Euphrasia Duro and Takura Chikwiri were expelled last December over charges of backing a Zanu PF mayoral candidate.
Early this month, Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo upheld the MDC-T decision and advised the two to stop their council duties.
Their lawyer Gift Nyandoro said his clients were taken before the party’s disciplinary committee and before the matter was finalised, the MDC-T wrote to Chombo recommending their expulsion.
“The MDC-T party wrote to the Minister of Local Government informing him of their position against the two councillors, but their disciplinary hearing is still pending,” Nyandoro said.
“Correspondence shows that it was Tendai Biti (MDC-T secretary-general) who did that, but our argument is that our clients are still councillors.
“There is a letter that has been filed of record written from the MDC-T offices in which the party is saying Duro is still their member, this confusion needs to be clarified.”
