Japajapa was speaking as the guest of honour when he spoke at length about Christianity.

“As dancers do your dancing, but remember to go to church. Halleluah. I am an evangelist who is here to preach,” Japajapa said receiving applause from the revellers.

Many dancers are diverting to music as they try to stay afloat in the challenging industry that has seen raunchy dancers gaining popularity.

Manjenjenje Dancing Queens, led by Monica Mukombe and Syndicate Girls fronted by Precious Makwame, have become the latest groups to release albums following in the footsteps of Beverly Sibanda and Zoey Sifelani who launched their albums last year and last week respectively.

Manjenjenje’s is a five-track album called Nyamupfukudza with songs like Manjenje, Sango, Usacheme, Takura Mkwende and the title track Nyamupfukudza.

Syndicate Girls’s album Loly carries six tracks, the title track Loly, Imba Yangu, Ngatifare, Peter, Nherera and Ungafara here.

The launch, which proved to be a night of gyrating, was graced by an array of dance groups like Gonyeti and Trailers, Unique Queens, Blue Virgins, Four Angels and many others headlined by Apama Styles. Musicians Daiton Somanje and Somandla Ndebele among others graced the event.

Meanwhile, reigning National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) Promoter of the Year Biggie Chinoperekwei, who is also the proprietor of the venue, said they would be supporting the musicians by offering them the venue for their album launches.

“We are committed to take our arts sector to greater heights and according to the artistes, the venue is part of our ongoing support to them,” Chinoperekwei said.

The promoter will also be hosting a Nama celebration party for Jah Prayzah and himself at his other bar, Private Lounge Jah Prayzah will perform at the event together with sulumani Chimbetu, Guspy Warrior and Ammara Brown.
