The event, which is the brainchild of musician and goodwill ambassador for water conservation and zero littering Dereck Mpofu, will be held under the theme “Love Is Cultural”.

Speaking to NewsDay, Mpofu said preparations for the festival were at an advanced stage with 10 countries and cultures to be represented.

“We have come up with this event which will embraces a diversity of cultures through love so we aptly chose St Valentine’s Day to host the festival,” Mpofu said.

“We have invited ambassadors from 10 countries and asked them to bring their traditional dishes and clothes to experience cultural exchange in a romantic way.

“As a cultural event, I anticipate that those who are going to come and have fun will be dressed in their cultural wear.”

At the festival, Botswana afro-jazz sensation Thabang Garogwe of Ke a Gana fame, is expected to lead an array of local musicians to entertain the guests.

“We have also invited Garogwe who is rocking Botswana’s airwaves with his latest album Moratiwa Nkamogele, which is rich with words of wisdom about how lovers can protect and cherish the marriage institution,” Mpofu said.

Local musicians that have confirmed their participation include Albert Nyathi,   Willis Wataffi, Adiona Maboreke, Farefi Edward and Hope Masike, while Tourism minister Walter Mzembi is expected to be the guest of honour.

“Those who are in love will be in for a treat as Nyathi’s creative poetry will charm them while I have confidence in all the artistes on the bill, who are known for their soulful performances,” Mpofu added.

Tickets of the event are currently on sale, going for $30 for individuals and $50 per couple including a buffet menu of traditional food from at least five countries.
