Chabvuta was based at Chemagamba Police Station. The girlfriend, Tariro Shavati (19), is helping police with investigations.

According to Tariro’s mother Teresia, Chabvuta came to her house around 6pm and headed straight to Tariro’s bedroom where they had “a good time” before he started complaining of “feeling too hot”.

Teresia said Tariro, who is still in a state of shock, came to her and told her that Chabvuta became unconscious after gulping traditional Chibuku beer and belched.

“He (Chabvuta) came as he often does every other day and went straight to Tariro’s bedroom and they were there for some time before Tariro came to tell me that Chabvuta had become unconscious,” narrated Tariro’s mother.

A taxi was hired to take Chabvuta to Chinhoyi hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 8pm.

Mashonaland West Police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the death of Chabvuta.

“I can confirm that one of us, Inspector Chabvuta, passed on last night at a house in Gadzema, but I’m not privy to the circumstances leading to his death,” said Mabgweazara.

The body of Chabvuta has been transferred to Harare for post mortem. People are gathered at Chemagamba Police Camp.
