Africom marketing manager Prosper Mutswiri announced that they had come up with an extended data promotion and voice plan on their platform which will see customers being charged for the first three minutes of their voice calls plus 4g data for $25, while a single $1 scratch card has been stretched to buy 100mb of data. Mutswiri said “the Africom crossover promotion which was due to expire has been extended for the next three months.

“For only $25 you still get 4GB of data and we have also unleashed a new Voice offering where you call from Africom and get charged for only the first three minutes and enjoy free calling for the rest of that call with fair usage policy applying.”

Mutswiri said in a highly promotional charged voice market, Africom seeked to maintain relevance by offering its client a package that continues to beat them all since inception and adds value to the customer. This simply means a call within Africom will now cost only 18cents unlimited and 12 cents per minute across other networks.

Currently Africom has been charging only six cents per minute for Africom to Africom calls and has maintained the 12 cents for across all network calls since inception of their VoIP platform.

Africom also reaffirmed their position on voice calls offer which will only be factored on the first three minutes of a call and the rest minutes will be completely free with fair usage policy.

On data offers to their low end customers, a single $1 scratch card now offers a whooping 100mb of data valid for 24hrs while $5 scratch cards have been stretched to offer even more at 600mb valid for one week.

With the current voice and data promotions across networks, Africom may be commended for their voice offering yet the data package may still be a good move, it falls way off with their corporate competition which now offers much more larger data capacities.

Mutswiri also announced that Africom had extended its national coverage on almost all major towns with a 100% presence in all cities.

“We have expanded coverage in Kwekwe, Gweru, Chegutu, Kadoma, Rusape, Marondera, Masvingo, Vic falls, Harare, Chitungwiza, Mutare and Kariba too.

“We have however extended our base station coverage in Kadoma, Rusape, Kwekwe plus new shops in Gweru and Kwekwe. Chinhoyi is our next target and we expect to cover it completely by March,” Mutswiri said. As Africom seeks to extend coverage and broadband speed, they, however confirmed that they had been successfully sharing towers with other mobile network operators a new move that pose them for growth and the general industry at large .
