THE Rand Stadium in Johannesburg is the place to be this afternoon as the Warriors take on Gabon in an international friendly match as part of their preparations for the African Nations Championships (Chan) finals that kick off on Saturday.

The Warriors arrived in Johannesburg yesterday morning and kick off their campaign against Morocco at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday. Their next match is against Uganda on January 16 and four days later, they will round up their campaign against Burkina Faso.
Today’s match-kick off time is 1530hrs. It will give coach Ian Gorowa a rough indication of his starting 11 for the first match ahead of another planned match against local side, Ajax Cape Town, on Thursday.
This is Zimbabwe’s second friendly after they played and beat Mozambique 2-1 in December before last Sunday’s match against Libya was called off following the North Africans’ failure to secure tickets to Harare.
Gabon landed in Johannesburg last Friday.
From a young Zimbabwe side doing duty at the 2014 Chan tournament in South Africa, Kuda Mahachi and George Chigova are the players to watch.
Talking to MTNFootball, coach Ian Gorowa said goalkeeper George Chigova and attacking midfielder Kuda Mahachi will be names to watch during the tournament — a clear indication that these will start all the three group games, at least.

“We have a young group of players and all are very exciting. We have some very talented players. I would say to watch all the players because there really is so much talent coming through. But if you push me I would say keep an eye on Kuda Mahachi and goalkeeper George Chigova.”
