Video: When they ‘twerked’ their last respects

When a hero falls, the nation comes out, not only to mourn, but also to celebrate the hero's lifetime achievements.
When a hero falls, the nation comes out, not only to mourn, but also to celebrate the hero’s lifetime achievements.

In the case of the late former freedom fighter and Zimbabwe National Army senior officer Retired Colonel Harold Mtandwa Chirenda, who died last Wednesday, thousands of Zimbabweans gathered at the National Heroes’ Acre shrine to pay their last respects in different ways on Thursday afternoon.

Acting President Joyce Mujuru read out her eulogy, narrating the good works of Chirenda.

However for some of the Zanu PF supporters captured here in video, coming out in numbers is their most sincere way of paying tribute.

Clad in regalia, holding national flags, singing and ‘twerking’ to kongonya music was, on this day, their perfect send off for Chirenda.

Chirenda, being a former freedom fighter, must have smiled from his new found home as it was music that kept him and colleagues in high morale as they faced numerous challenges in their fight against colonialism. Tapiwa Zivira, Online Reporter
