THE MDC-T says the party will deal with the appeal by Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhamarare and three other party councillors in a “dispassionate and professional manner”.

Party national spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora also described the appeal by the four expelled MDC-T members as a correct move.

His remarks follow an appeal by Nhamarare, Pamela Mutare, Richard Mupfura and Farai Bhiza challenging the MDC-T decision to fire them on charges of disregarding party directives during mayoral elections held last September.

“It is the right of any MDC person aggrieved by the decision of the party for redress,” Mwonzora said.

“We don’t want to pre-empt their approach to the party, but definitely their appeal will be looked at in a dispassionate manner and should we find that it has merit, we will re-look at their case and if it has no merit, we will act accordingly.”

Mwonzora added: “They have acted correctly and we will look at the case in a correct and dispassionate manner. It will be up to the body that will look at the matter to decide.”

Through their lawyer Chris Ndlovu, the four claimed in their appeal that they were victims of factionalism and accused the party of misdirecting itself when it decided to fire them.

Meanwhile, daggers have reportedly been drawn against some top MDC-T officials in Manicaland including former Housing minister Giles Mutsekwa and the provincial secretary Misheck Kagurabadza over their attendance at Nhamarare’s victory party in December.

Provincial spokesperson Pishayi Muchauraya told NewsDay yesterday that they were planning to compile a list of top officials who attended Nhamarare’s party and submit it to the party headquarters in Harare for disciplinary action.
