Mahachi, who capped a fine performance with a brilliant goal, described the win as a dream come true and dedicated the famous win to his countrymen and God, who he described as his reason for success.

“I cannot describe how happy I am at the performance against Mali. Going into the match, we knew we were up against a very solid side, but we believed in our abilities and fought for the entire 90 minutes, emerging victorious despite all the odds against us.

“I thank God for my performance in helping my team when it was needed most and getting the man-of-the-match and the goal capped a wonderful night for me, my colleagues and my fellow Zimbabweans who rallied behind us.

“We have booked ourselves a semi-final slot and I believe with God on our side nothing is impossible. We can still go through after working hard as a team,” a delighted Mahachi told supersport.com. Mahachi has been one of the revelations of the 2014 Chan tournament, mesmerising fans with his skills and ability to take on defenders at will.
