WARRIORS midfielder Ovidy Karuru has officially been released by his Belgian club OH Leuven, ending what had become a frustrating episode for the 24-year-old player.

According to the club’s official website, Karuru is one of the three players who have been released and are free to join other clubs during the current transfer window.

“Next week, our boys pull on winter training in Alicante, Spain. Coach Ronny Van Geneugden has made known which players may join in winter training. The selection includes a few players from the entire core players, including four goalkeepers. Gunther Vanaudenaerde, still injured, look elsewhere in order to continue his rehabilitation at home.

“Defender Muhamed Subasic and midfielders Zainoul Haidara and Ovidy Karuru will not go on stage. Was asked to gradually look out for a new employer,” a statement on the website reads.

Karuru joined OH Leuven in 2012 from Boulogne in France, and made 21 appearances out of 30 games in his debut season in Belgium.

However, a reported pre-season training bust up with his coach Geneugden saw the talented midfielder being frozen out of the team this season.

Prior to his release this week, Karuru had not featured for Leuven in the 21 league games they played this season.

Karuru has reportedly pushed for an exit from the club since the start of the season, with Nyasha Mushekwi’s Belgian club KV Oostende a possible destination.

A move back to France has also been mooted, while South Africa has also been reported as another likely destination for the former Masvingo United and Gunners midfielder.

When contacted by NewsDay Sport for a comment on his next move, Karuru did not shed much light.

“I’m still in Belgium, and that’s it,” Karuru said yesterday.

His last two tweets on the social media platform Twitter on Monday and Tuesday read: “When the going gets tough. . . the tougher gets going . . . Never give up on your dreams till you archive them . . . Good luck. Training done, now home watching movies . . . No pain no gain.”
