Bridgette died at the age of 79 after battling for life for more than three years at Parirenyatwa hospital where she was in a coma. Her body was taken to Zvimba yesterday where it lay in state awaiting burial this afternoon.

The church service took place at a local parlor with senior government officials, among them Justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, Women Affairs minister Oppah Muchinguri and Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana in attendance.

President Mugabe was reported to have already gone to Zvimba yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, condolences continued to pour in yesterday from different quarters.

Zimbabwe National Editor’s Forum (ZINEF) chairman Brian Mangwende said: “Zinef joins the First Family and the rest of the nation in conveying its condolences on the passing on of the President’s sister Bridgette. May they find strength in this difficult time. May Bridget’s soul rest in peace.”
