Manyeruke was promised the vehicle as an honour for his 40 -year-old musical career at an event held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) in November.

Initially, Pan had announced that they would hand over the top-of-the-range car today at a dinner that had been scheduled to take place today at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Speaking to NewsDay Pan chief executive officer Shepherd Sirewu said they had decided to make the event bigger than their initial idea hence pushing it to March 15 next year.

“We had certain ideas when we initially planned the event, but along the way new ideas developed and we decided to make the event bigger, attracting pastors and gospel musicians from outside the country,” said Sirewu.

He urged promoters to appreciate musicians before they die so that they can see how much they are cherished.

A similar car to the one that Manyeruke is supposed to get was displayed at the HICC during a concert dubbed Manyeruke Celebrating 40 Years in Gospel Music organised by Eternity productions.

The concert was to honour the Makorokoto singer for his contribution in the growth of the local gospel genre.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Manyeruke said he had been informed about the developments by Pan.

“I think there are certain things that have not gone as per their plans, but as a recipient of a gift there is not much I can do or say other than wait,” said Manyeruke.

Although he could not delve into what reasons had been cited for the delay, Manyeruke said he was confident the organisers’ plans would eventually take off.
