The Distant Lover hit-maker will perform tonight and also on Sunday evening at the same venue.

“We are happy to be having such a great Zimbabwean jazz artiste coming to perform for locals during this festive season and we are certain that jazz lovers will certainly enjoy the rare treat,” said the show organiser, Bernie Bismark.

She said the shows would be very exciting as they would be in a decent atmosphere where audiences would be treated with a nice vibe as well as good food and drink. Bismark said Mhlanga’s performance would be a rare and exciting treat for the festive season where people could relax and celebrate Unity Day and the rest of their weekend in a festive season celebratory mood.

“Mhlangla last came to perform in Zimbabwe a few years ago between 2006 and 2007 so this will definitely be an exciting holiday treat for locals,” she said.

Bismark added that during the two shows, Mhlanga would be performing with other rising stars including Kelly Rusike, Simba Dembedza and Owen Chimuka.

Mhlanga, whose career began in the 70’s fronting various bands, has worked with local acts such as Shaka, Talking Drum, Ilanga, Mudzimu and Oliver Mtukudzi.

He then went to South Africa to pursue different opportunities in music which led to collaborations with various renowned South African artistes such as Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ray Phiri, Sipho Mabuse, Mhlungisi Gegane, Jimmy Dhludhlu and Busi Mhlongo, among others.

Although Mhlanga worked as a music producer for several record companies in Zimbabwe, his first recording was not recognised for a whole decade until BMG Records released it in South Africa in the early 90s.

In the new millennium, his international debut Shamwari took him to greater heights.

This album included the hit single Distant Lover which our local talkshow host Rebecca Chisamba of the Mai Chisamba Show uses on during her shows.
